Mandy Tröger, born in 1980, is a Walter Benjamin Fellow of the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the Institute for Media Studies at the University of Tübingen, Germany. She also works as a columnist for the Berlin newspaper Berliner Zeitung. Mandy Tröger studied History at the University of Erfurt, Germany, and American Studies at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. She worked as an online news editor and, in 2018, received her doctorate from the Institute of Communications Research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). For her doctoral thesis on the post-socialist transformation of the East German press, she received a fellowship from the Heinrich Böll Foundation and the Dissertation Award from the Communication History Section of the German Communication Association (DGPuK). She has been active in the Network for Critical Communications Research (KriKoWi) since 2017. Her research and teaching focus on transformations of media and communication, media history and critical theory.
