The publishers Prof. Dr. Gabriele Hooffacker and Prof. Dr. Horst Pöttker will respond to press inquiries.

Press meeting: At the 65th Münchner Mediengespräche on February 21, 2018, the publishers will present the journal and discuss the role of journalism as a science with academics and journalists:

Journalism as a science? By providing training and research, journalism studies supports professional journalism just as medical schools support doctors. In contrast to the USA, journalism studies in Germany emerged late and is still relatively under-developed. Reservations on the part of media businesses, whose roots lie in the principled journalism of the 1920s, continue to have an impact. Yet especially in the crisis that has followed the digital revolution, academic training and research are vital to enable journalists to meet their obligation to the public in future.

On the panel:

  • Franziska Augstein, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Munich
  • Dr. Bernhard Debatin, Ohio
  • Dr. Wolfgang R. Langenbucher, Vienna/Munich
  • Dr. Horst Pöttker, Hamburg
  • Dr. Tanjev Schultz, Mainz

Presentation: Prof. Dr. Gabriele Hooffacker

Location: Lost Weekend book shop, Schellingstr. 3, directly outside the underground station Universität.
