Martina Thiele, born in 1967, works as a professor at the Institut of Media Studies at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. After studying Slavic philology, journalism and political science and completing her doctorate in Göttingen on journalistic controversies about Holocaust films, she did research at the Dortmund Institute for Journalism in the DFG priority programme “Lesesozialisation”. Since 2015, she has conducted annual studies on gender constructions in broadcasting on behalf of ORF. She is chairman of the DGPuK theory prize jury and director of the Doctorate School geschlecht_transkulturell. Her research and teaching focus on communication theories and publics, communication history, gender media studies stereotypes and prejudices.
