Martina Thiele, born in 1967, is a full professor at the Institute for Media Studies at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. After studying Slavic Philology, Journalism and Political Science, and completing her PhD in Göttingen on Journalistic Controversies about Holocaust Films, she conducted research on Reading Socialisation at the Dortmund Institute for Journalism. On behalf of the Austrian Public Service Broadcaster ORF, she has carried out studies on gender constructions in television and radio programmes. She is a member of the jury that awards the annual Hans Bausch Media Prize and is director of the Tübinale student film festival. Her research and teaching focus on communication theories and history, gender media studies, media systems and publics, and research into stereotypes and prejudice.
